| 18.08.2009 / EBÜS integration with NETAVIS Observer |
 |
 |
What do Securitas, G4S and many other security service providers have in common? All use EBÜS as a standard image transmission system. More and more customers do not want to have only a video surveillance system, but also additional services. For instance, in a suspicious case, a security service provider or the police at site should make sure that everything is in order. As customers use different video surveillance systems, the need for a uniform user interface is given.
These circumstances were taken into account by the companies Accellence and NETAVIS. Their products EBÜS and Observer were therefore united, via SNAP http/XML interface of Observer, to a single overall solution. The following functions are available: live view, archive view, eventbased view, time syncronization, camera highlight and resolution change.

| 18.02.2009 / NETAVIS Success Story: CERAMICS HOUSE in Straldja (Bulgaria) |
 |
 |
The CERAMICS HOUSE in Straldja (Bulgaria) is using the software platform NETAVIS Observer in order to analyze their production output. This analysis is conducted by means of a video based counting.
In addition to classical surveillance functionality, the CERAMICS HOUSE in Straldja is relying on the iCAT object tracking functionality of NETAVIS Observer, deploying herewith the unique Smart Tripwire© technology of NETAVIS. Not only people counting but also object counting can be conducted, through it. Thanks to Smart Tripwire© the customer gets a clear picture on the factory performance. Hence, up to 4.000 objects can be counted per hour with this unique technology. The hourly error rate of the iCAT algorithm is at only 5-6 wrong counts.
The production plant is equipped with 19 Axis network cameras (with permanent recording) and 1 counting-camera. The video surveillance system in Straldja is constantly growing and there are plans to equip other locations with the software platform NETAVIS Observer, as well.
One of the advantages of the NETAVIS system is for instance scalability: This means that it can be extended easily and without any problems. Another benefit is additional security: When applying NETAVIS Observer together with network cameras at critical points on company grounds the customer is able to avoid fraud by using the object tracking and counting function. Furthermore, reliable information on the production output can be generated.
This Success Story will soon be online on http://www.netavis.net/.

12.12.2008 / NETAVIS Success Story: City of Sliven (Bulgaria) “The safety and well-being of our citizen is the most important thing. In order to provide this, we rely on NETAVIS Observer 3 as its flexibility, scalability and robustness perfectly meet our expectations”, Jordan Lechkoy, Mayor of Sliven
In order to provide a safe city environment and higher standards of life for its citizen, the municipality of Sliven implemented an IP-based surveillance solution that supplies the security company (owned by the local municipality) with powerful tools for effective crime prevention, rapid reaction possibilities and protection of municipality property.
The heart of this solution is the Observer 3 software platform from NETAVIS. It is a flexible, scalable and robust software platform for server-based IP video management offering live viewing, recording, video analytics and alarm management. It is cost-effective, runs on standard hardware and easily integrates with many different security systems and business applications. Furthermore about 100 Axis networks cameras as well as three server (one user server and two camera server) were implemented.
The open IP based NETAVIS video surveillance software is convincing in regards of functionality, performance and reliability. The system assures that all key city areas (all entrance and exits, the local market, all major city center cross roads, schools and social services’ residential complex) are monitored effectively. Furthermore automatic number plate recognition of vehicles is possible.
In the future the system should be extended by more cameras and more disk space for enhance storage capacity.
18.11.2008 / Integration of EBÜS Since 1st November 2008 an integration of the video management software EBÜS with NETAVIS Observer is available.
The EBÜS software of the Accellence Technologies GmbH stands for “the consistent image transmission system”. EBÜS is a software-based information management system for alarm control units. It is used for the processing of alarms – ranging from transfer and display to evaluation and archiving of image data in digital network CCTV systems.
It has been developed for the application in public and private monitoring devices. The system is recommended by the research group „Image Transmission“ of BDWS, BHE, police and ZVEI for the use in emergency and service control stations (NSL) as well as in alarm control units of the police (AS-POL).
For further information about EBÜS, please have a look at www.accellence.de/produkte/ebues.html.
Precondition for the integration of EBÜS with NETAVIS Observer is a SNAP 1.6 (or higher) license.
11.11.2008 / NETAVIS Success Story: Lugner City „The software platform from NETAVIS impressed me with its user-friendliness and openness“, Ing. Karl Romaner, Technical Manager of Lugner City
One of Vienna‘s biggest shopping center – the Lugner City – relies on an area of 27,000m² on the IP-based software platform NETAVS Observer, in order to be a help rather than a hindrance to the security staff, while also reducing costs.
Specifically, the NETAVIS software platform allows for the remote control of the escalators using soft buttons and I/O modules of the intercom system. In the case of an escalator shutdown, the security staff is able to respond more quickly. Furthermore, their job is made much easier by the NETAVIS system since they are now able to operate the escalators by remote control. Thanks to the monitoring of different key areas within the shopping centre, vandalism and theft have declined significantly. Because garage exits are monitored, anyone trying to leave the garage without paying can be spotted and legal action taken.
In the near future it is likely that the integrated video analysis module iCAT, a toolbox which also allows frequency measurements to be taken, may be implemented.
06.11.2008 / What’s new in NETAVIS Observer 3.1 The new Observer 3.1 is coming and with it new, improved features.
Observer 3.1 offers a functional and high-performance client-on-server solution. The client can be installed and started on the server, automatically. As there is no need for an own PC anymore, cost can be reduced significantly.
Moreover the live streaming and archive access can be optimized through the new ABS Transcoder (Adaptively Balanced Stream). ABS is able to transcode MJPEG, MPEG-4, H.264 and MxPEG streams into ABS.1 streams. This enables excellent live streaming quality of VGA, or several QVGA and QQVGA even on extreme low bandwidth like 30-40 kbps.
In addition, with Observer 3.1 a professional bandwidth management is possible. The bandwidth can be configured both on server site and on client site. Furthermore the bandwidth can be decreased by 40 kBit/s. This professional bandwidth management is vitally important for customers, especially in retail and banking, that dispose of a large branch network.
The camera support has been improved with Observer 3.1 as well. Now the following cameras are supported:
- Basler BIP-1600c, BIP-1000c
- Arecont AV-3100M
- Sony SNC-CS20, SNC-CM120, SNC-RZ50, SNC-RX530
- Lumenera LE175C, LE275C
28.10.2008 / Knowledge Database: GOP Delay Up to three seconds delay for MPEG Streams:
The following compression technology based reasons lead to delays while handling MPEG4, MXPEG and/or H.264 streams:
- To cash one GOP on the server site can last up to one second*.
- To cash one GOP on the client site can last up to one second*.
- To cash one GOP for the iCAT analytics can last up to one second*.
*The delay can be reduced through modification of the GOP size.
Find more useful information in our Knowledge Database http://solutions.netavis.net/.
20.10.2008 / NETAVIS Data Protection Bundle This feature bundle provides customers with an ideal solution for complying with local data protection acts and CCTV laws.
For extended login security Observer 3 contains an additional password for the login mechanism. The administrator may assign a second password to a user. In this case – after the normal login dialog – Observer 3 will ask for an additional password. As this password is not known to the user, he has to ask the administrator to enter his additional password.
- Enter Reason for Image Archive Access
A new camera level access right has been added which forces the user to enter a reason when accessing the image archive or exporting images from it. With this reason an event is automatically generated and saved in the system.
- Notification in Case of Archive Export
When a user exports a portion of the recording archive in SAFE, AVI or JPEG format an event is generated.
iCAT, the advanced video analysis toolbox incorporated in each NETAVIS server, includes the data protection feature Privacy Masking. It enables the masking of sensitive areas in live view and archive views via polygon fields. With Privacy Masking an efficient surveillance solution can be established including all the individually shaped masks that customers may need.
10.10.2008 / Product information: H.264 Support The latest IP video compression technology minimizes bandwidth and storage.
The increasing demand for megapixel cameras and high frame rates in the video surveillance world leads to an increasing need of more storage and bandwidth. Therefore more effective compression methods are required.
The new video compression technology H.264 – also known as MPEG-4 Part 10 or MPEG-4 AVC (Advanced Video Coding) – enables less data volume on the network without lowering the image quality. H.264 can match the best possible MPEG-4 Part 2 quality at up to half the data rate.
H.264 also delivers excellent video quality across the entire bandwidth spectrum. Therefore H.264 – especially in combination with high performance cameras – clearly has a bright future.
06.10.2008 / Success Story: Benetton Megastore “A new era for multifunctional video equipment“, Tino & Marc Wieser, CEOs Benetton Megastores Vienna
The Benetton Megastore in Vienna‘s famous shopping street Kärntner Straße relies on the IP-based surveillance platform NETAVIS Observer to protect the shop and to reduce shrinkage.
Additionally the integrated video analytics module iCAT based on the unique Smart Tripwire© technology collects customer frequency measurements. Hence valuable data about customer movements, such as length of stay and number of stops, are gained and analyzed. This data allows a better monitoring of the “conversion rate” of the store and also helps for more targeted marketing activities.
Video surveillance information and the frequency measurements run on the same infrastructure, consequently improving the return on investment (ROI) of the installation dramatically.

17.09.2008 / NETAVIS Features: Multiple Zooming With Observer 3 zoom functions in the Online Monitor and the Archive player are offered. There are two possibilities to zoom into the video frames: Drawing rectangle zoom areas by mouse click. A click inside the zoom area will zoom into the selected area. A click outside the zoom area will zoom out to full frame size (zoom area is deactivated).
The number of zoom areas is not limited. Zoom areas can be moved by mouse click and drag and drop, and can be resized by the mouse wheel when the mouse pointer is pointed over the area.
A zoom area can be removed just by dragging it outside the view-port. In the online monitor there is the possibility to assign a zoom area to another view-port just by clicking into the requested view-port immediately after creating a zoom area.
Scrolling the mouse wheel, while the mouse pointer is not over a zoom area, activates the zoom in function. The position of the image area selected by the cursor is kept stationary as far as possible.
Click and drag and drop of the image will work in this mode as well. Note that existing zoom areas will be hidden by entering in this zoom mode, and will be visible again when the image is fully zoomed out (exiting this zoom mode).

04.07.2008 / NETAVIS Observer 3 – the future is now NETAVIS is launching Observer 3 in summer 2008. With this 3rd generation of video- and audio management software a professional and integrated Video Analysis is not a vision any more. Observer 3 augments the already existing features of Observer II by the toolbox iCAT, the video format H.264 and a substantial improvement in support of mega pixel cameras.
The toolbox iCAT is a module for Video Analysis, developed by NETAVIS. Additionally it serves as generic interface available for external modules. iCAT offers Motion Detection (movement detection), People Counting (video supported analysis of customer flows, people counting and frequency measurement), Privacy Masking as well as Camera Sabotage. Thanks to this unique functionality it can be used for many contexts in transportation/logistics, banking and the public sector. Another promising area of application is in retail. Here iCAT can be utilized to analyse customer flows and POS campaigns in order to improve sales.
Furthermore Observer 3 supports the video format H.264 by which digital videos have a better quality, meaning colourful pictures which are sharp and rich in details. H. 264 requires lower data rates and therefore it needs less memory capacity. All this makes H.264 a very efficient format. Moreover the 3rd generation of Observer offers a substantial improvement in support of mega pixel cameras, for instance zooming features in live monitoring and in the archive. In addition mega pixel cameras of several vendors, such as IQinvision, will be supported. „The future is now“ – Observer 3 is available from summer 2008.
03.07.2008 / Hardware Information: IQeye cameras implemented The importance of high-resolution megapixel cameras is increasing and NETAVIS improves their support. For instance, NETAVIS was able to win IQinVision as a partner. The IQeye cameras are supported beginning with release 1.12. Features as zooming in live monitoring and in the archive are possible from release 3 and higher.
A complete list of supported video sources can be downloaded in our partner area.
